League of Legends Blue Essence System Is Bad
When playing any game it's important that you understand how their currencies work, how to obtain said currency and what that currency can be used for.
Over the years, I've played a number of games that include in-game currencies, most of which include both a paid currency and a free currency. League of Legends is not much different than games like Bloons Adventure Time Tower Defense and Pokémon Go, however, both types of currency will not be able to be obtained for free.
WHAT IS BLUE ESSENCE?
Blue Essence is one of the main currencies players can accumulate in League of Legends. For players who are returning to League of Legends, think of Blue Essence as the new format of Influence Points.
Currently, there are only two currencies that are considered primary in League of Legends, the other currency goes by the name Riot Points, however, players have to pay for Riot Points, unlike Blue Essence.
WHAT IS BLUE ESSENCE USED FOR?
Blue Essence is used primarily for purchasing or unlocking Champions. Players can either redeem champions by purchasing them for their full price in the in-game Store or can purchase champions for a reduced rate by using their champion shards.
Champions can range from 450 to 7800 BE depending on how new the champion is. Upon the release of a new champion, all previous champions get one step closer to becoming cheaper.
USING CHAMPION SHARDS
Depending on how frugal players need to be, they can choose to only unlock champions that they have the shards to. Using a champion shard to unlock a champion will cost 40% less than if the player was to purchase the champion outright.
Though players will save 40% on their champions, players will only receive 20% of the champion's purchase cost for disenchanting said champions.
PURCHASING RUNE PAGES
Although it's a bit archaic these days, players can still purchase additional rune pages for6300 BE. The reason I say that rune pages are archaic is because of how oversimplified runes have become since the Runes Reforged update.
Unlike the previous rune pages, players will not have to sift through dozens of runes to gain stats, making switching which runes you want to use a lot more streamlined. Unless you're someone who doesn't fully understand what runes do or why you should select specific rune trees over others, having multiple rune pages shouldn't matter.
Players will only have to make 6 decisions on their runes, making switching your already established pages easier to edit on the fly. League has also implemented preset rune pages to help assist newer players or players who aren't interested in going in-depth with their rune builds.
UPGRADING YOUR CHAMPION'S MASTERY TO LEVEL 6 OR 7
Players can massively upgrade a champion's mastery by spending time playing that champion in any PVP mode. Current PVP modes include Summoner's Rift (not including CO-OP VS. A.I.), ARAM (All Random All Mid), and will occasionally feature alternate seasonal game modes such as Legend of the Poro King and ARURF/URF (All Random/Ultra Rapid Fire).
Upon reaching champion mastery level 5, players will have to play ranked Summoner's Rift to progress further with their mastery. So for "ARAM-mains" like me, upgrading to mastery level 6 or 7 isn't something of interest.
THE ESSENCE EMPORIUM
For endgame players, one of the best and most popular uses of Blue Essence is the Essence Emporium.
Twice a year, Riot launches the Essence Emporium that features chromas that can be purchased for Blue Essence rather than Riot Points. The Essence Emporium also features goodies such as Emotes and Skins.
Chromas can be purchased for2,000 BEand depending on what time of year it is, players will only have access to half of the chromas available. During some Essence Emporiums Partner Program Chromas are available, costing10,000 BE.
Players can also buy Mystery Icons for 1,500 BE and Mystery Wards for4,900 BE.
The most expensive buys in the Essence Emporium include the Urfwick skin, which costs150,000 BE, the Gemstone King icon + 1 Rare Gem, which costs100,000BE, Gemstone Prince icon + Rare Gem, which costs75,000 BE, Gemstone Knight icon + 1 Rare Gem, which costs50,000 BE.
Players can also buy the Money Bags Emote for75,000 BE and the Make it Rain Emote, which costs50,000 BE.
Note that these aren't the only things that can be bought in the Blue Essence Shop, though these are some of the most common rewards that can be purchased since it was introduced in 2017.
CHANGING YOUR NAME
As Hannah Montana loves to remind us, "Everyone makes mistakes" and sometimes that mistake is as simple as choosing a terrible username or summoner name.
Changing your summoner name is one of the biggest investments players can make on League of Legends simply due to the fact that it costs 13900 BE, which costs over double the cost of 2 of the highest tier of champions.
If you do change your summoner name, remember that your name can be taken by another member of the League community and as of the time of this posting, League has implemented a new rule that only allows one player to use the summoner name, even if they are on different servers.
HOW DO YOU GET BLUE ESSENCE? WHAT IS THE FASTEST WAY TO GET BLUE ESSENCE?
Players can collect Blue Essence in a variety of ways, including disenchanting champion shards and completing missions.
FIRST WIN OF THE DAY & EVENT MISSIONS
The only consistent way of collecting Blue Essence is by completing your first win of the day. The first win of the day mission will reset every 22 hours and will provide players with 50 Blue Essence and 400 Experience upon completing the mission.
Unfortunately, 50 Blue Essence doesn't go very far, but collecting the 400 Experience daily can help speed up how quickly players level up, thereby making collecting Champion Capsules a lot more manageable.
Players should take advantage of their First Win of the Day, if not to get a regular supply of Blue Essence at lest to get a regular supply of experience, which will ultimately be the method that helps players grind the most Blue Essence, again through champion capsules.
Players can receive their First Win of the Day in any game mode, including Co-op V.S. A.I.
Although First Win of the Day missions are one type of mission that players can complete to get Blue Essence, there are periodic missions tied to events that players can complete to get higher yields of Blue Essence. Event Missions can vary in the amount of Blue Essence received and has even included rewards as high as a couple thousand Blue Essence at a time.
Note: Not all rewards from event missions yield Blue Essence rewards and many missions will require the player to play in a PVP game mode.
CHAMPION CAPSULES
Champion shards are received every time players level up through champion capsules.
There are two different champion capsules that players can receive being regular ones and glorious champion capsules. Glorious champion capsules tend to have better champions in them, though I have to admit I've opened both types and have gotten good and bad results.
Players will have a very slim chance to receive a permanent shard instead of a regular one. Permanent shards can either be used to unlock a champion for no extra cost or can be disenchanted for more Blue Essence.
HEXTECH CHESTS
I've already written a thorough guide on Hextech Chests, how to farm them and what they reward you with, however, since we're already chatting about Blue Essence, I'd be a terrible person if I didn't let you know that Hextech Chests have a chance to drop a champion shard that is worth 4800 Blue Essence of more.
I personally feel like when Hextech Chests drop champions it's a troll because lord knows mama loves her sweet, sweet free skins!
HONOUR CAPSULES & ORBS
The final way players can collect Blue Essence is by gaining Honour from their fellow players. At the end of each game, whether playing PVP or Co-op V.S. A.I., players can give "honour" or recognition to players they found impressive or fun to work with.
There are three different types of honours players can receive Stayed Cool (Tilt-proof, chill), Great Shotcalling (Leadership, strategy) and GG <3 (Team player, friendly). While it is unclear how exactly the honour system works, as there are algorithms based on the number of games players play and the number of honours they receive in comparison to themselves and not other accounts.
Either way, at the end of the day players, can receive the keys required to open Hextech Chests from the orbs and capsules players receive for reaching levels 3, 4, 5 and their checkpoints.
Level Capsules contain higher yields of Blue Essence via champion shards, though again, depending on what the RNG gods decide for you, you may get a bunch of expensive champion shards.

HOW CAN I GET BLUE ESSENCE QUICKLY?
Players cannot force the amount of Blue Essence that they receive, however, if players take advantage of the amount of experience they receive from playing PVP matches, they will level up faster. In reality, playing PVP and losing can often lead to more XP than winning a game of bots, so get your battle hats on and get to the fields.
I personally love playing ARAM as games are less pressure but still take a great amount of skill to play.
Players can purchase XP Boosts from the riot shop to increase the speed at which they level up, however, since XP Boosts can only be purchased using RP, it is not a free option for players who do not want to spend their money.
Basically, the best way to get Blue Essence is to level up as fast as you can. Et Voilà!
CAN YOU SEND BLUE ESSENCE TO OTHER PLAYERS?
No, there is no way players can transfer Blue Essence to other players as it would be much too easy to abuse that system. Instead, players will have to grind for champions that they want or will instead have to purchase RP for their friends.
